Collin Sexton Celebrates Lakers Deal with Instagram Hype Video

Collin Sexton used social media to signal his excitement about joining the Los Angeles Lakers, posting a hype video on his Instagram account shortly after signing with the franchise on Day 2 of NBA free agency.

The 27-year-old guard agreed to a contract with Los Angeles on the same day the club completed a sign-and-trade for center Walker Kessler and added wings Quentin Grimes and Sandro Mamukelashvili. While reports had linked Grimes and Mamukelashvili to the Lakers for days, Sexton’s arrival had not been widely anticipated.

Instant Offense off the Bench

Sexton is expected to bolster a bench unit that has struggled to produce consistent scoring in recent postseasons. Splitting last season between the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, he appeared in 68 games and averaged 15.4 points while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from three-point range.

The 6-foot-3 guard has primarily come off the bench in recent years but can move into the starting lineup if injuries sideline Austin Reaves or Luka Doncic. Defensive metrics have rated him below average on the perimeter, and he is not regarded as a primary playmaker, though he showed solid pick-and-roll chemistry with Kessler when both played for the Utah Jazz.

Long-Standing Interest

Los Angeles previously explored trading for Sexton during the 2024 offseason, when he averaged 18.7 points and 4.9 assists and shot 39.4 percent from beyond the arc with Utah. Salary-cap constraints and a reluctance to include future draft picks kept the Lakers from making a deal at the time.

By signing Sexton outright two years later, the Lakers added a proven scorer without surrendering assets. His Instagram video suggests he is eager to don the purple and gold as the team reshapes its roster for the upcoming season.
