The Los Angeles Lakers remained unbeaten in Las Vegas Summer League play on July 14, 2026, defeating the L.A. Clippers 97-83 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Rookie guard Cameron Carr led all scorers with 23 points, pushing the Lakers to 3-0 and leaving them as one of only two undefeated teams in the tournament.
Moments after the win, Carr made the team’s objectives clear during a live interview on Prime.
“We get better every single game. We get more and more connected every single game. We’re here to win it. We’re not here to play around,” the first-year guard said. “That’s what we came to do. Job not done.”
Eyeing First Title Since 2017
The Lakers last captured the Summer League crown in 2017 behind then-rookies Lonzo Ball—who earned MVP honors—and Kyle Kuzma. Carr said the current roster is determined to replicate that result.
Back From Injury, Focused on Defense
Thursday’s contest marked Carr’s return after a right thumb contusion sidelined him for the previous game. “I feel good. Another opportunity to step on the court is a blessing,” he noted.
The 19-year-old has scored at least 18 points in four of his five appearances across the California Classic and Las Vegas events. While his offensive production has drawn headlines, Carr emphasized that defensive improvement is his top priority. “I’m just trying to be a better defender every single game and learn from the vets that have been here and done what I’m trying to do,” he said.
Drawing Energy From Home
Carr credited his mother for instilling the high-motor style he displays on the floor. “My mom always tells me to be an energy giver, don’t take people’s energy,” he explained. “I’m young, so I gotta be an energy giver.”
Los Angeles resumes Summer League action later this week, needing one more victory to clinch a berth in the postseason tournament of the 10-day showcase.
