Former Los Angeles Lakers center Andre Drummond says one brief exchange with LeBron James in 2021 convinced him that the four-time NBA MVP’s reputation for meticulous preparation is well deserved.

Speaking during an online “mukbang” session with streamer N3on, Drummond described a defensive possession in which he rotated toward an open shooter in the corner. James immediately corrected him.

“Drum, don’t go out there. That man’s shooting 32 percent from three—go to the top,” Drummond recalled James saying. The opponent missed, reinforcing James’s point. “I asked him, ‘How do you even know everybody’s percentage?’ It was the craziest thing I’d ever heard,” Drummond added.

The center said the incident made him rethink his own film study. “He knows the other team’s scouting report top to bottom,” Drummond noted, calling James “super, super smart” and “fun to be around.”

Stories about James decoding opponents’ play calls in real time and directing teammates accordingly have circulated for years, underscoring the 39-year-old’s standing as one of basketball’s most intelligent players.
