Washington, D.C. — Washington Wizards forward/center Alex Sarr had surgery Monday in New York to repair a fractured right foot, the team announced.

The injury occurred late last week during a contact play in an offseason workout, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Wizards expect the 7-footer to be fully cleared by the start of the 2026-27 season.

Recent Injury History

Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, was limited to 48 games last season because of toe, adductor, hamstring, calf and ankle issues. When available, he averaged 17.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 blocks in 27.2 minutes.

As a rookie, Sarr appeared in 67 contests, posting 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 blocks while logging 27.1 minutes per game.

Looking Ahead

Washington owns the top selection in next week’s draft and is set to add that pick to a roster that already features Trae Young, Anthony Davis and several young contributors. Sarr will become eligible for a rookie-scale extension after the upcoming season.
