San Antonio, TX — Less than two days after suffering a concussion in Game 2 against Portland, Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will accompany the team on its flight to Oregon, head coach Mitch Johnson confirmed Thursday.

Johnson told reporters that the third-year star’s symptoms have not intensified and that Wembanyama completed light cardiovascular work on Wednesday. The 22-year-old returned to the Spurs’ practice facility Thursday but has not yet been cleared for full-contact activity.

“He is following the league’s protocol, he’s progressing, and he’ll travel with the team,” Johnson said.

Return to Play Still Uncertain

Travel clearance does not guarantee Wembanyama’s availability for Game 3 on Friday or Game 4 on Sunday in Portland. Under NBA concussion rules, the Defensive Player of the Year must meet several health benchmarks and obtain approval from an independent neurologist before returning to the court.

“We hope he’ll be back at some point, but we’ll allow the protocol to play out, and there’s nothing more important than his health,” Johnson added.

Other Injury Updates

The Spurs expect guard Dylan Harper (thumb) and forward Harrison Barnes (shoulder) to be available for Friday’s matchup, according to Johnson.

The Spurs trail the best-of-seven series, 2-0.
