Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the organization expects to negotiate a new contract with Kristaps Porzingis and is eager for Al Horford to exercise his player option for next season.
Porzingis, obtained at February’s trade deadline, will enter unrestricted free agency on July 1. Dunleavy told reporters conversations on a new deal “should start soon.” Horford, 37, holds a 2024-25 option worth just under $6 million.
“Those are guys we’d love to have back,” Dunleavy said, citing the pair’s size, floor spacing and versatility—attributes the front office has targeted for several seasons.
Injury updates
Dunleavy also addressed the status of two injured starters. Jimmy Butler (torn ACL) and Moses Moody (ruptured patellar tendon) are progressing in rehabilitation, but the club still lacks a timetable for either player’s return.
Looking back at 2023-24
The GM defended the roster’s talent level, arguing that injuries and excessive turnovers—not personnel—led to the team’s 22 losses in its final 32 games. Some observers, including NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, have questioned whether the ceiling is high enough even when healthy.
Dunleavy’s offseason plan—retaining Porzingis and Horford while waiting on Butler and Moody—figures to shape how the Warriors answer those doubts.
