The San Antonio Spurs travel to New York trailing 2-0 in the NBA Finals after a narrow one-point loss to the Knicks in Game 2.

Rookie star Victor Wembanyama took responsibility for the frantic finish at Frost Bank Center, where his turnover and two missed three-pointers in the final minute allowed New York to escape with the win.

“This is everything that I wished for,” Wembanyama told ESPN. “There’s really no reason to overthink it. This is what I’m built for.

New York forward Mikal Bridges acknowledged the Knicks dodged trouble despite the Spurs’ late mistakes. “You can’t do that to a team that is that good, give chances like that,” Bridges said, according to the New York Daily News. “We got to be way better.”

San Antonio dropped both games at home but Wembanyama believes the adversity can benefit the club. “It felt like we did a lot of things wrong, but we were also relentless and kept pushing,” he said. “I know it’s not wasted because our lessons are learned. I know we’re not going to make the mistakes of the past again.”

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday night at Madison Square Garden, where the Spurs will attempt to cut the series deficit in half.
