Former Cleveland Cavaliers wing Luke Travers is returning to Australia after two seasons split between the NBA and the G League. Melbourne United announced on Monday that the 24-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract.
The move was first revealed on social media by Chicago Bulls guard and fellow Australian Josh Giddey, who shares the same agent as Travers.
Travers spent the 2024-25 NBA season on a two-way agreement with Cleveland and re-signed on another two-way deal last summer. The Cavaliers waived him in February. Over 24 NBA appearances, the 6-foot-7 forward saw limited minutes, but he averaged 17.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks across 36 games with the Cleveland Charge in the G League, shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 27.5 percent from three-point range.
Cleveland acquired Travers’ draft rights after selecting him 56th overall in 2022. He remained in Australia for two additional seasons before joining the Cavaliers in 2024.
The West Australian is no stranger to Melbourne United; he played for the club in 2023-24, helping the team reach the NBL Finals, and returned to the championship series the following year, falling short both times. “I’m obviously super excited to get another shot at winning a championship with United,” Travers said in the team’s release. “I’m coming into a group with a lot of really skilled, versatile players and veteran experience. I think the sky is the limit.”
With his NBA opportunities limited, Travers now looks to translate his G League production into a larger role back home.
