LAS VEGAS — Free-agent guard Trevor Keels has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee and will sit out the remainder of both the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reported.
Keels, who turns 23 in August, logged four Summer League appearances for the Heat before the injury, averaging 27.9 minutes, 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 50.0% from the field, 37.9% from three-point range and 85.7% at the foul line.
The 6-foot-3 combo guard ended the 2025-26 season on a two-way contract with Miami, but the club declined to extend a two-way qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. He spent most of last season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G League affiliate, where he posted 18.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals across 40 games (32.8 minutes per game) on 44.8% shooting overall and 40.2% from deep.
“I’m just going to show them what I can do,” Keels said last week about his Summer League opportunity. “I’m going to earn a two-way back or earn a contract back.”
Keels appeared in eight NBA games last season, totaling 15 minutes. Recovery timelines for MCL sprains vary, leaving the impact on his free-agency prospects uncertain.
