Trail Blazers Cut About 70 Business-Side Jobs

The Portland Trail Blazers have eliminated approximately 70 positions in their business operations department, according to reporter Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report.
Veteran Blazers.com writer Casey Holdahl confirmed on social media that he was among those let go.
President of business operations Dewayne Hankins said the move is part of a wider restructuring aimed at “positioning the organization for the future.” In a statement, he thanked the departing employees for “helping shape the Trail Blazers over many years” and pledged support for them during the transition.
The layoffs are the first major change since billionaire Tom Dundon took over as the franchise’s majority owner. Dundon, who also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, recently addressed criticism of his spending habits during a podcast appearance. He insisted he is willing to invest in the roster but questioned the team’s off-court expenses, claiming the Blazers spend about $100 million more annually on their business operations than the Hurricanes.
“I just don’t want to waste money. I want to invest it,” Dundon said on the podcast, adding that he intends to provide players with top-tier resources such as massage therapists and food services while trimming other expenditures.
The Trail Blazers did not specify whether additional staffing changes are planned.
