Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green criticized NBA insider Shams Charania after Charania disclosed the league’s Most Valuable Player on social media hours before the league’s scheduled television announcement.

During Monday’s episode of his podcast, Green said Charania’s 6 a.m. ET post revealing that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had secured his second consecutive MVP award undermined the NBA’s planned reveal on Prime Video Sunday night.

“I thought that was embarrassing,” Green said. “The NBA has to do something about that. To tweet at six o’clock in the morning who the NBA MVP is makes our league look like we have no organization.”

Calls for league action

Green urged Commissioner Adam Silver to intervene to prevent future leaks, arguing that the league and its media partners should control the timing of major announcements. “If there’s supposed to be an announcement on Amazon Prime, the announcement has to happen on Amazon Prime,” he added.

The four-time NBA champion is a familiar face on television himself, appearing as a guest analyst on Inside the NBA, which now airs on ESPN—the same network that employs Charania.

Charania defends the scoop

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, Charania said delivering breaking news quickly is “literally my job.” Green dismissed that defense, saying, “It also can’t be that important to leak information. Come on.”

The exchange has intensified a broader discussion about whether insiders should prioritize breaking news or respect broadcast partners’ planned reveals. For now, opinions across the league remain divided.
