Karl-Anthony Towns posted 21 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes on Thursday night, helping the New York Knicks squeeze past the San Antonio Spurs, 105-104, in Game 2 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

The 7-footer finished plus-11 while largely outplaying rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, despite sitting portions of the third quarter with foul trouble. “I’m just happy to be finding ways to win,” Towns said. “This team leans on each other, and that’s why we’re here.”

Bench sparks late surge

New York’s reserves combined for 27 points and 10 boards. Center Mitchell Robinson, who defended Wembanyama’s last-second jumper, praised the unit’s energy. “We just came out there fighting, talking to each other. Communication has been key,” he said. Guards Landry Shamet, Miles McBride and Jose Alvarado also chipped in during critical stretches.

Head coach Mike Brown highlighted the collective effort. “It could be anybody’s night,” Brown noted. “Our guys sacrifice for one another, and we found a way to get a win.”

Bridges, Brunson deliver in crunch time

Mikal Bridges supplied 20 points on 13 shots, adding six rebounds and six assists. The forward emphasized the urgency of the postseason. “There’s nothing after June,” Bridges said. “I’m trying to do whatever it takes to help my team win.”

Point guard Jalen Brunson, who shot 7-for-25 overall, sank the go-ahead free throw following a Wembanyama turnover with 3.2 seconds left. He missed the second attempt, giving San Antonio a final possession that Robinson and the defense snuffed out.

Hart limited by fouls

Glue guy Josh Hart went scoreless in 18 minutes before fouling out, curbing his usual all-around impact. New York still secured its 13th consecutive playoff victory and now leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
