Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu will not play in Monday night’s Western Conference semifinal opener against the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced on social media.
Dosunmu had been listed as questionable with soreness in his right calf, the same issue that sidelined him for Game 6 of the first-round series versus the Denver Nuggets. The 26-year-old will enter unrestricted free agency this summer if he and Minnesota do not reach an extension beforehand.
The former second-round pick was pivotal against Denver, topping the Wolves with 21.8 points per game while shooting 60.9% from the field, 54.5% from three-point range and 95.0% at the foul line. He also averaged 4.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 32.4 minutes across five appearances.
Originally selected 38th overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2021, the Illinois product spent his first four-and-a-half NBA seasons with his hometown club before Minnesota acquired him at February’s trade deadline.
The Timberwolves’ backcourt remains thin: Donte DiVincenzo is out indefinitely after tearing his right Achilles tendon in the opening round. On a positive note, star guard Anthony Edwards is expected to be available Monday after hyperextending his left knee on April 25.
Tipoff for Game 1 at Frost Bank Center is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT.
