Suns

Miles Bridges, recently acquired by the Phoenix Suns, is again embroiled in a legal conflict with former girlfriend Mychelle Johnson following a custody exchange earlier this year.

TMZ reports that Johnson has been charged with assault and battery, allegations she calls “false and frivolous.” She claims Bridges tried to hit her with a golf cart during the same incident. Bridges had previously secured a temporary restraining order after accusing Johnson of cyberstalking him and damaging his vehicle outside an arena; Johnson denied those accusations.

The dispute surfaces less than a year after Bridges completed a 10-game NBA suspension in 2023-24 related to a prior domestic violence case that kept him out for the entire 2022-23 season. Phoenix obtained the 26-year-old forward in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets.

Pistons

Contract talks between the Detroit Pistons and restricted free agent center Jalen Duren remain at an impasse. According to The Athletic’s Hunter Patterson, Detroit has shown minimal interest in pursuing a sign-and-trade, leaving limited paths to a resolution.

Patterson noted that an agreement would benefit both parties, citing Duren’s age, production and the Pistons’ scarcity of comparable options at center.

Magic

Orlando Magic rookie forward Izaiyah Nelson will undergo surgery after fracturing his left ankle during Sunday’s NBA Summer League game. The team projects a recovery timeline of three to four months, casting doubt on his availability for training camp and the start of the regular season.

Selected in the second round out of South Florida and signed to a two-way contract, Nelson had impressed team officials with his energy and competitiveness, according to Summer League coach DJ Bakker. Last season, he captured both American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors after transferring from Arkansas State.

Negotiations in Detroit and health concerns in Orlando unfold as Bridges’ latest legal battle adds another off-court storyline ahead of the 2024-25 NBA campaign.
