Cleveland – Second-round pick Meleek Thomas is making an early case for a regular-season role. After scoring 20 points in his first Summer League appearance, the Cleveland Cavaliers guard poured in 30 against the Detroit Pistons, adding seven assists and four steals. The 19-year-old showed comfort both on and off the ball, hitting perimeter shots, attacking the rim and applying steady defensive pressure in two straight outings.
Toronto – The Raptors are not currently shopping key players, yet two expiring or affordable contracts could become valuable if the front office elects to stay active on the trade market. Forward RJ Barrett is entering the final season of his deal, while guard Immanuel Quickley remains under team control with a contract attractive to teams seeking a starting point guard. Neither is believed to be available, but the club’s cap structure offers flexibility should an opportunity arise.
Miami – Speculation about LeBron James’s next stop continues as the four-time MVP weighs free-agency options. In a recent column, Geo Valdez of SI.com argued the Miami Heat possess the roster makeup to maximize the 41-year-old, citing the team’s defensive depth, floor spacing and head coach Erik Spoelstra’s system. James has also been linked to Cleveland, Philadelphia and Golden State, though no timetable for a decision has been announced.
