The Phoenix Suns have reached a four-year, $48 million agreement with free-agent guard Collin Gillespie, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported that the contract is fully guaranteed.
Suns Reward Gillespie’s Breakout Season
Gillespie, 26, posted career highs of 12.7 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds across 80 games last season, and his 232 three-pointers set a franchise record. The former Villanova standout, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent and previously signed multiple two-way deals, is now viewed internally as a cornerstone of Phoenix’s push for greater toughness and competitiveness.
Pelicans Explore Move Into the Lottery
The New Orleans Pelicans are still pursuing a lottery pick in this month’s draft, league sources told NOLA.com’s Rod Walker. If the club acquires a higher selection, Walker believes the front office will prioritize rebounding, rim protection and outside shooting. Tennessee forward Nate Ament is among the prospects drawing interest from New Orleans and other teams drafting in the top half of the first round.
76ers Face Familiar Offseason Questions
Depth and durability remain major topics for the Philadelphia 76ers as the offseason begins. In a Spotrac preview, Keith Smith noted that Joel Embiid continued to produce at an elite level when healthy, while Paul George showed strong form after returning from suspension. Tight finances, however, could limit significant additions. Smith expects Philadelphia to exercise several team options, re-sign either Kelly Oubre Jr. or Quentin Grimes, and fill out the roster largely with veteran-minimum deals.
The Suns’ commitment to Gillespie, the Pelicans’ draft maneuvering and the 76ers’ roster calculus highlight early storylines as teams prepare for the upcoming NBA calendar.
