Sixers Release Guard/Forward Dalen Terry

The Philadelphia 76ers have waived guard/forward Dalen Terry, the club announced Tuesday in a press release.

Terry’s $2.6 million contract for 2026-27 was fully non-guaranteed, meaning the move carries no financial penalty for the team. The decision was widely expected, as Philadelphia is hard-capped at the first apron and needed additional room to finalize agreements with LeBron James and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Cutting Terry frees enough space to sign one of those players; a second transaction will be required to accommodate both.

The Sixers have several avenues to clear the remaining money. Forward Jabari Walker has a partially guaranteed deal worth $250,000 and could be waived or traded. The front office could also move rookie center Johni Broome, whose $2.2 million salary is fully guaranteed. Another possibility is stretching Broome’s contract, which would spread his cap hit—approximately $307,000 annually—over seven years. Broome is signed through the 2028-29 season, with only the 2026-27 campaign guaranteed.

Terry, 23, spent his first three and a half NBA seasons with the Chicago Bulls before being traded twice and waived by the New Orleans Pelicans in February. He joined Philadelphia on a two-way contract after clearing waivers and was converted to a standard two-year deal in April.

The Arizona native was the 18th overall pick in the 2022 draft after two collegiate seasons at the University of Arizona. Across 218 career games, he has averaged 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 11.2 minutes. While reportedly popular in the Sixers’ locker room, he has yet to secure a consistent rotation role.

If unclaimed on waivers, Terry will become an unrestricted free agent later this week. Because he has accrued four years of NBA service, he is no longer eligible for a two-way contract.
