Washington Still Seeking Backup Point Guard; Extension Talks Loom for Anthony Davis, Bridges, Others

Following a busy stretch that delivered AJ Dybantsa in the draft, a record free-agent deal for Trae Young, and trades for Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton, the Washington Wizards are still looking for a second-unit floor general, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The club has 14 standard contracts and hopes to fill the final spot with a reserve point guard. Available options include Brandon Williams, Gabe Vincent, Cameron Payne, Aaron Holiday, and Cole Anthony. Washington previously showed interest in Russell Westbrook, but Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said on a recent livestream he does not expect the veteran to return to D.C.
Scotto adds that Washington plans to open contract-extension talks with Anthony Davis when the six-time All-NBA forward becomes eligible on August 6.

Nuggets: Multiple teams have inquired about forward Cameron Johnson, yet Denver has declined to engage in trade discussions, per Scotto. Johnson had been viewed as a potential cap-relief casualty earlier in the offseason.
Hawks: Before Oklahoma City sent Luguentz Dort to Atlanta, the Lakers, Heat, Raptors, and Nets expressed interest, league sources told Scotto. Although Dort can become an unrestricted free agent next summer, the Hawks intend to keep him past the 2026-27 season.
Suns: Phoenix hopes to reach a new deal with recently acquired forward Miles Bridges. The 28-year-old became extension-eligible last week for a maximum of $86.3 million over three years.
