The Orlando Magic explored a trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo before this season’s deadline, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, confirming comments made by ESPN analyst Kirk Goldsberry on The Bill Simmons Podcast last month.
Antetokounmpo was drafted by Milwaukee in 2013 under then-general manager John Hammond, who now serves as a senior advisor in Orlando. Hammond and Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman are known for prioritizing length and size when shaping the roster, Scotto noted.
Whether Orlando revisits a deal this summer could depend on the outcome of its playoff run. League sources told Scotto that Antetokounmpo and new Bucks head coach Taylor Jenkins are believed to have a positive relationship.
Mavericks Target Tim Connelly
Scotto reported widespread belief that the Dallas Mavericks view Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly as a leading candidate to run their front office. Minnesota, meanwhile, has shown interest in extending Connelly’s contract to keep him with the Timberwolves long-term.
Possible Bulls Coaching Scenario
If the Chicago Bulls hire Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd to run basketball operations—as rumored—Minnesota assistant coach Micah Nori could become a serious contender for Chicago’s head-coaching job, Scotto wrote.
Wizards to Elevate Cody Toppert
The Washington Wizards plan to move G League head coach Cody Toppert to an assistant position on Brian Keefe’s NBA staff for the 2026-27 season. Toppert previously held an NBA assistant role in Phoenix under Igor Kokoškov.
Lakers Seek Additional Executives
Under new team owner Mark Walter, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to hire at least one assistant general manager and potentially another high-ranking executive. Both additions would report to president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, who is expected to stay in his current post.
Pacers Preparing Internal Promotion
The Indiana Pacers intend to promote director of college scouting Mike Born to help replace former senior vice president of player personnel Ryan Carr, who departed earlier this year, according to league sources.
