NEW YORK — tempers flared with 4:39 remaining in the second quarter of Game 6 between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks, leading to the ejections of Knicks center Mitchell Robinson and Hawks guard Dyson Daniels.

The incident began immediately after two free throws by New York’s OG Anunoby. Robinson and Daniels became entangled while jostling for rebounding position, exchanged words and then pushed and grabbed at each other. Players and coaches from both teams rushed in, and one game official briefly fell to the floor during the scramble.

New York was already ahead by 50 points when the altercation occurred. The Knicks took an 83–36 lead into halftime, the largest halftime margin in NBA postseason history.

Coaches react

“It’s tough because when you’re up that big, stuff happens,” Knicks head coach Mike Brown said. “If somebody feels like something that shouldn’t happen to them happened, it’s hard to keep your composure.”

Hawks head coach Quin Snyder said he did not catch every detail of the fight. “I know both teams were competing, and they were having their way with us on many, many levels, as evidenced by the scoreboard,” Snyder noted.

Series clincher

New York closed out the night with a 140–89 victory, sealing the series. Emotions remained high, but no further incidents were reported after the ejections.
