ATLANTA — Atlanta guard Dyson Daniels and New York center Mitchell Robinson were thrown out of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference first-round series Thursday night after a mid-court fight that resulted in offsetting technical fouls.

The altercation erupted with 4:39 left in the second quarter, moments after OG Anunoby pushed the Knicks’ advantage to 50 points with two free throws. As Robinson boxed out Daniels on the ensuing possession, tempers flared, and an official fell while players and coaches rushed in to separate the two. Atlanta’s Onyeka Okongwu and New York’s Jalen Brunson restrained Robinson, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker and several Hawks coaches, including head coach Quin Snyder, pulled Daniels away.

Both players were assessed technical fouls and immediately ejected. New York went on to close out the series with a 140-89 victory, their 51-point margin matching the largest playoff win in franchise history.

“It’s tough because when you’re up that big, stuff happens,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said. “If somebody feels like something that shouldn’t happen to them happened, it’s hard to keep your composure in that moment.”

The Hawks trailed 83-36 at halftime, the largest deficit at the break in NBA postseason history. “I couldn’t see the details of who did what,” Snyder said. “I know both teams were competing, and they were having their way with us on many, many levels — as evidenced by the scoreboard.”

The Knicks advance to the conference semifinals after taking the series 4-2.
