The Chicago Bulls have discussed the possibility of trading for Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis, yet the front office is unwilling to meet the current asking price, ESPN’s Jamal Collier reported.

Collier noted that Davis would immediately address Chicago’s need for interior defense, but team officials prefer to keep their young nucleus intact until the roster looks closer to true contention. “I don’t think going out and chasing X megastar is the way to proceed, at least today,” a team source told ESPN.

The Bulls possess significant trade resources—owning all of their first-round picks for the next seven drafts plus Portland’s 2026 selection—and could open nearly $70 million in cap space next summer. Even so, concerns about Davis’ durability and contract remain. The Mavericks are 6-15, top prospect Cooper Flagg is viewed as the franchise’s long-term centerpiece, and Davis has appeared in only six games this season.

Collier’s report came as part of a wider look at Chicago’s slide from a 6-1 start to 9-10. Head coach Billy Donovan has tried a pace-and-space system similar to last season’s Indiana Pacers, who featured Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam. “That’s who we have to be,” Donovan said. “We have to be better than the sum of our parts.”

The organization hopes guard Josh Giddey can develop into a Haliburton-style playmaker while it searches for a Siakam-type frontcourt star. Management continues to view Giddey, Coby White, 2024 lottery pick Matas Buzelis and rookie Noa Essengue as the core of its rebuild.

For now, Chicago is monitoring the market—including the Davis situation—but is expected to act cautiously rather than force a blockbuster deal.
