Pacers Bringing Back Garrison Mathews on Second 10-Day Deal

The Indiana Pacers are set to re-sign veteran wing Garrison Mathews to a second 10-day contract after receiving another hardship exception, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The NBA grants hardship exceptions when at least four players have missed three or more consecutive games and are expected to remain sidelined for a minimum of two additional weeks. Indiana currently meets that threshold with Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles), Obi Toppin (foot), Aaron Nesmith (knee) and Kam Jones (back) all out.
Mathews, 29, is in his seventh NBA season. The former Lipscomb star went undrafted in 2019 and has appeared for Washington, Houston, Atlanta and Indiana. He joined the New York Knicks on a non-guaranteed training-camp deal earlier this fall but was waived before opening night.
Across 319 career games, Mathews has averaged 6.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 17.3 minutes while knocking down 38.0% of his three-point attempts. In five appearances with the Pacers this season, he has logged 9.2 minutes per game and hit 2-of-13 tries from beyond the arc.
The league limits players to two 10-day contracts with the same club; Indiana would need to clear a roster spot to keep Mathews after this deal expires. The guard will earn $165,197 over the 10-day span, while the Pacers will carry a $131,970 cap charge.
