Free-agent swingman Javonte Green has agreed to return to the Detroit Pistons on a one-season contract valued at $3.95 million, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Detroit still possessed Green’s Non-Bird rights after signing him to a minimum deal last August. Those rights allow the club to offer up to 120 percent of the veteran minimum, landing at a precise figure of $3,943,679.
Green, who turns 33 later in July, has logged 345 regular-season appearances across seven NBA campaigns with Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Cleveland and Detroit. The undrafted forward spent time in Spain, Italy and Germany before joining the Celtics in 2019.
Last season he became the only Piston to play in all 82 games, averaging 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 17.6 minutes. The 6-foot-5 defender shot 44.7 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from three and 84.0 percent at the line, with almost 60 percent of his attempts coming from beyond the arc.
The Pistons’ offseason now includes new agreements with Green and Kevin Huerter, incoming deals for Isaiah Joe and John Collins, and the draft selection of Ebuka Okorie. Veteran forward Tobias Harris is set to depart in free agency, while Isaiah Stewart and Marcus Sasser are reportedly being moved in trades.
Green will qualify for Early Bird rights if he finishes the season in Detroit, but a mid-season trade would revert him to Non-Bird status. Players signing one-year contracts can typically veto a trade; whether the Pistons requested Green to waive that right is not yet known.
