Peterson Links Season-Long Cramps to Creatine; Denver Faces Watson Decision; Porter Discusses Thomas’ Exit

Top NBA draft prospect Darryn Peterson told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne he has identified the cause of the muscle cramps that plagued him throughout his lone season at Kansas: large doses of creatine.

“I’d never taken it before,” Peterson said, adding that the amount he ingested pushed his creatine levels “to an unsafe” range. The condition led to a full-body cramp that required hospitalization in September and lingered for the rest of the year. Since discontinuing the supplement, Peterson has had no further problems, a development that could reassure teams picking at the top of the draft. His stock dipped behind BYU forward AJ Dybantsa during the season, but the medical clarity could solidify his standing.

Watson Expected to Draw Interest in Restricted Free Agency

The Denver Nuggets anticipate a costly summer with forward Peyton Watson headed for restricted free agency, according to the Denver Gazette. Club officials said they “hope” to keep the 21-year-old long term but stopped short of making guarantees.

Team president Josh Kroenke voiced strong support for coach David Adelman and his staff after a 54-win campaign marked by injuries. “I thought that if this group was healthy, this could be a 60-, 65-win team,” Kroenke told reporters. Adelman pointed to improved ball-handling and athleticism as offseason priorities, noting both areas were exposed in consecutive playoff runs.

Porter Points to Personality in Cam Thomas’ Brooklyn Departure

On the “Road Trippin” podcast, Denver’s Michael Porter Jr. suggested Cam Thomas’ demeanor contributed to the guard’s uneven tenure with the Brooklyn Nets. “There’s a lot more to the NBA than just scoring,” Porter said, adding that Thomas “doesn’t really talk to anybody.”

Thomas averaged nearly 23 points per game over a two-season stretch but struggled to secure a long-term role. He accepted a qualifying offer, was waived midseason and spent the rest of the year on short-term contracts. “I don’t think he’s trying to be a bad teammate,” Porter added. “I just think that’s him.”
