The New York Knicks will be without starting forward OG Anunoby for Friday’s Game 3 against the Philadelphia 76ers, head coach Mike Brown told reporters before tip-off in Philadelphia.
On the other side, Philadelphia center Joel Embiid has been upgraded from questionable to available, according to the Sixers. Head coach Nick Nurse said the former MVP participated in the morning shootaround and “is getting better all the time” after missing Game 2 with ankle and hip injuries.
Anunoby was diagnosed Thursday with a right hamstring strain suffered during the Knicks’ Game 2 victory. With New York holding a 2-0 series lead, Brown labeled the 28-year-old forward “day-to-day” and noted the injury is not considered serious. Anunoby traveled with the team but will sit out tonight.
Through eight postseason games, Anunoby is averaging 21.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.1 blocks in 35.3 minutes, while shooting 61.9% from the field, 53.8% from three and 81.1% at the foul line.
Miles McBride will move into the starting lineup for New York. Josh Hart, who sprained his left thumb in Game 2, had an X-ray that came back negative and will play after being upgraded from questionable to probable. Brown said Hart and several other Knicks could absorb Anunoby’s minutes and shot attempts.
