The Denver Nuggets have exercised their right of first refusal and will retain forward Spencer Jones by matching the two-year offer sheet he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Jones, a restricted free agent, received a $2.65 million qualifying offer from Denver at the end of June, giving the club the option to match any outside contract. According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the new deal totals $11.75 million—$6 million for the 2026-27 season and $5.75 million for 2027-28—and grants the 25-year-old the right to veto trades for the remainder of the current league year.
The 6-foot-7 wing went undrafted in 2024 after five seasons at Stanford. He joined Denver on a two-way contract that summer and appeared in 20 NBA games as a rookie, logging 125 total minutes. Re-signed to another two-way deal last offseason, Jones stepped into a larger role amid injuries across the roster, most notably to Aaron Gordon. Converted to a standard contract in February, he averaged 5.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals while shooting 50.4% from the field and 39.4% from three in 64 games (37 starts) during the 2025-26 campaign, playing 22.1 minutes per contest.
By matching the Thunder’s offer, the Nuggets keep a young rotation piece under contract through the 2027-28 season.
