Nuggets remain confident in keeping RFA Peyton Watson as Bucks, Clippers and Hawks inquire

The Denver Nuggets believe they are well positioned to re-sign restricted free agent forward Peyton Watson despite interest from the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and Atlanta Hawks, according to a report by The Athletic’s Tony Jones.

Because all three suitors are currently operating above the salary cap, any attempt to land the 23-year-old would almost certainly require a sign-and-trade agreement with Denver. The Nuggets, however, are said to value Watson highly and are prepared to let the restricted free-agency process run its course.

Across the NBA, negotiations with restricted free agents have tended to move slowly in recent off-seasons, with several notable players finalizing new deals late in the summer.

Selected by Denver for his length, athleticism and defensive versatility, Watson has progressed into one of the club’s most trusted young rotation pieces off the bench.

Uncertainty for David Roddy

Forward David Roddy’s status is less certain. Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports reports that the Nuggets are fond of Roddy, but retaining him could be complicated. After completing his fourth NBA season, Roddy is no longer eligible for a two-way contract, and Denver’s frontcourt is already crowded. If the team makes another addition before training camp, Wind notes that bolstering backcourt depth is the more likely priority.
