Multiple teams are testing the waters on several notable veterans as front offices begin mapping out offseason moves, league sources told The Stein Line and other outlets.
Celtics
Rival executives have checked with Boston about guard Derrick White, believing the Celtics are at least open to listening, according to Jake Fischer. While a deal is considered improbable and sources would be “surprised” if White is dealt, the club continues to pursue front-court depth and recently explored a pre-deadline move for Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.
Minnesota, searching for back-court help next to Anthony Edwards, reportedly maintains strong interest in White, Sam Amick of The Athletic wrote. Neither White nor Gobert is viewed as formally on the block, but observers remain attentive to any framework that could involve the two veterans.
Pistons
Detroit has made forward-center Isaiah Stewart available, Amick reported, and the 25-year-old is preparing for the possibility of a trade, Fischer added. The Pistons are targeting upgrades in shooting and playmaking and expect Stewart to be part of those discussions.
The Bucks, Celtics, Spurs and Heat are among the clubs monitoring Stewart’s status. Separately, speculation persists about a potential multi-team scenario in which Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo lands in Miami; Marc Stein noted guard Tyler Herro could be redirected to Detroit if such a blockbuster materializes.
Despite the uncertainty around Stewart, Detroit remains intent on re-signing free-agent forward Tobias Harris after his strong postseason showing, per Fischer.
Timberwolves
While Gobert’s name appears in rumor mill chatter, Minnesota has been more willing to discuss forward Julius Randle in exploratory talks, Fischer reported. The organization continues to label Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid as off-limits, positioning Randle as a key trade asset as the front office looks to reshape the roster around Edwards.
Fischer also reiterated that Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is widely available, leaving open the possibility that the Timberwolves could pursue a significant move should the right opportunity arise.
