New York Knicks guard Jose Alvarado acknowledged on Saturday, June 20, that he is having trouble honoring the eight-day no-alcohol pledge he made immediately after the team captured the NBA championship.

The promise was intended to give players time to recover following a prolonged playoff run. Alvarado, however, said the celebration atmosphere has made the commitment harder than he expected. He did not specify whether he has broken the pledge, only that resisting drinks offered by friends and teammates has been “a real challenge.”

The 26-year-old Queens native joined New York midway through the season and became a key reserve in the postseason. The Knicks clinched their first title since 1973 earlier this week.

Alvarado did not indicate whether he plans to restart the eight-day clock if he slips, nor did the team comment on any internal guidelines regarding alcohol during the offseason.
