Injury Returns, Contract Talks and Draft Picks Shape Off-Season Paths for Pacers, Jazz and Kings

Indiana Pacers
After a 19-win campaign, Indiana is leaning on the prospect of a healthy Tyrese Haliburton to reset its trajectory. The All-Star guard missed the entire season with an Achilles injury suffered in the 2025 NBA Finals. ESPN’s Bobby Marks described the year as “a gap season” for a club that had just reached the championship round.
The front office is now focused on how newly acquired center Ivica Zubac will mesh with Haliburton and forward Pascal Siakam. Offensively, the Pacers fell from ninth to 27th in efficiency while using 47 different starting lineups. Team officials believe Haliburton’s full recovery could move the roster back into contention rather than another trip to the lottery.
Utah Jazz
Utah’s lengthy rebuild appears to be entering its final phase following the trade for forward Jaren Jackson Jr. The Jazz are positioning Jackson alongside Lauri Markkanen, Walker Kessler, Keyonte George and last year’s No. 5 overall pick, Ace Bailey. Holding the No. 2 selection in this month’s draft should add another cornerstone.
Securing Kessler’s next contract is a major summer priority as the center approaches restricted free agency. The organization also remains committed to George, who posted a breakout season and was cited internally as one of the league’s most improved young guards. Management believes the talent base is in place; the emphasis now shifts to converting that potential into wins.
Sacramento Kings
Sacramento attributes its 22-win season largely to injuries. Keegan Murray, Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis and DeAndre Hunter all missed significant time, forcing 34 different starting lineups. Even so, general manager Scott Perry acknowledged the roster must get younger.
The Kings hold the No. 7 pick in this month’s draft and view it as essential to securing a foundational player. Sacramento finished the year as one of the NBA’s oldest teams and has only a few players on rookie-scale deals. Financial decisions also loom, including DeMar DeRozan’s partially guaranteed contract and whether to adjust the veteran core of Sabonis, LaVine and Malik Monk.
Perry said he expects Doug Christie to remain head coach as the organization attempts to regroup and move forward.
