New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown questioned the officiating crew after a 115-111 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night.
Brown’s main issue was a sizable gap in free-throw attempts. San Antonio went to the line 32 times, including a 24-8 advantage in the second half. “I never thought I’d be in an NBA Finals and see a team get 24 free-throw attempts in the second half to another team’s eight,” he told reporters. “I don’t complain much about the officials.”
While the coach credited the Spurs for capitalizing on their chances, he said the imbalance “is going to lower our odds big time” if it continues in Wednesday’s Game 4 at Madison Square Garden. “Maybe we were fouling, but they were fouling too,” Brown added.
The victory cut New York’s series lead to 2-1 behind strong outings from Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle. Game 4 tips off Wednesday night in New York.
