The Orlando Magic will release forward/center Jonathan Isaac, ending his eight-year stint with the franchise, according to a report by Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Isaac was owed $14.5 million for the 2024-25 season, but only $8 million of that salary was guaranteed until Sunday. By waiving him before the guarantee date, Orlando avoids having the full amount hit its books and gains additional cap flexibility ahead of free agency.

The club can also apply the stretch provision to spread Isaac’s $8 million guarantee over multiple seasons, reducing the immediate impact on next year’s salary cap.

Once regarded as one of the league’s most promising young defenders, the 26-year-old struggled to stay on the floor. From the start of the 2019-20 campaign through the end of 2022-23, he appeared in only 45 games due to multiple major injuries.

Isaac suited up 52 times last season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in roughly 10 minutes per game.

League rules would allow Orlando to re-sign Isaac on a minimum contract if the team decides not to stretch his guaranteed money and he clears waivers, though the Magic currently appear prepared to move forward without him.
