Jamahl Mosley’s tenure with the Orlando Magic appears to be nearing its end, regardless of the team’s performance in this week’s play-in round, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
Speaking on a Bleacher Report livestream, Fischer said there is a “healthy amount of thought around the league” that Mosley will not return as head coach next season, even if Orlando secures a playoff berth. “Orlando, with Jamahl Mosley, is almost certainly going to be making a coaching change,” Fischer noted.
The Magic meet the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday for the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed. Orlando finished the regular season 45-37 and entered the play-in tournament after failing to clinch an automatic postseason spot.
Mosley, 45, was hired in 2021 and has guided the franchise to two postseason appearances, helping elevate a roster built around young standouts Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Expectations were higher this season after last year’s trade for Desmond Bane, but the club settled for a play-in position.
Should Orlando move on, the search for a new voice could begin quickly once the Magic’s season ends.
