Free-agent forward LeBron James is expected to reveal his next NBA destination soon, according to comments Monday by insider Shams Charania on ESPN’s “NBA Today.”
“It’s decision time for LeBron James because all the information, for the most part, is in,” Charania said, noting that nearly every serious contender has already laid out its plans to the four-time MVP.
Teams in the mix
Charania identified the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves as the primary candidates. General managers, team presidents and owners from those franchises have met with James and agent Rich Paul, while players across the league have been actively recruiting him.
Priorities beyond salary
James, 39, is prioritizing championship contention and a team culture he believes he can elevate, Charania said. Financial terms are reportedly a secondary concern, giving him flexibility to sign with clubs holding cap space, various exceptions or even a minimum contract if the basketball situation fits.
No set deadline
Although James is free to take additional time, Charania indicated the prolonged wait is unlikely. “All the voice notes have also been listened to,” he added, suggesting the decision — or at least its announcement — could arrive shortly.
