The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Houston Rockets in Game 2 on Tuesday without guards Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, according to The Athletic’s Dan Woike. Doncic continues to recover from a left hamstring strain, while Reaves is dealing with a left oblique muscle strain.

Although unavailable, Doncic has been a visible presence on the bench. Forward Rui Hachimura said the star guard’s energy has been valuable: “We love him just being around, just hanging out, talking. We missed him for sure.” During Game 1, Doncic offered feedback and encouragement to teammates, but the club has not provided a timetable for his return.

Redick Wants Kennard’s Aggression to Continue

Head coach JJ Redick praised Luke Kennard after the guard went 5-for-5 from three-point range in the series opener. Redick told ESPN that he urged Kennard to trade some efficiency for higher volume, noting that “six or seven threes a game at 38% for the series is better than you shooting three a game at 45%.” Center Jaxson Hayes said Kennard’s scoring burst was expected: “I used to grow up watching him drop 40, 50 a game in high school. I’ve known he’s been able to do all that.”

Matching Houston’s Desperation

Redick anticipates a stronger push from Houston in Game 2 and said the Lakers must equal that intensity. Monday’s preparation featured an extended film session and on-court teaching. “Tomorrow is going to require an elevated sense of desperation on our part because they’re going to come in with that,” Redick said.

Hayes Obtains Slovenian Passport

Hayes has secured a Slovenian passport, enabling him to join Doncic as the national team’s naturalized player during international competitions. Hayes noted that Doncic now calls him “my Slovenian brother.”
