The Los Angeles Lakers have classified forward Jarred Vanderbilt as day-to-day after he dislocated his right pinky finger in Tuesday’s Game 1 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder, head coach JJ Redick said Wednesday.
The injury occurred early in the first quarter when Vanderbilt leapt to challenge a shot at the rim and struck his hand against the backboard. He immediately clutched the hand in pain, received assistance off the court and did not re-enter the contest.
Vanderbilt logged six minutes before the setback, registering two points and one rebound. Los Angeles, already dealing with a short rotation, lost one of its primary defensive specialists and energy contributors for the remainder of the night.
Throughout the regular season, the 24-year-old averaged 4.4 points and 4.5 rebounds, providing versatility and on-ball defense that extend beyond traditional statistics.
With Game 2 scheduled for Thursday night, Vanderbilt’s availability hinges on his ability to tolerate the finger injury and perform effectively.
