NEW YORK — OG Anunoby’s tip-in with 1.2 seconds remaining completed a 29-point comeback and lifted the New York Knicks to a 107-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night, giving New York a 3-1 series lead.
Anunoby delivers a franchise moment
The forward rose for the decisive put-back after head coach Mike Brown had urged him before the game to attack the offensive glass. “I don’t know if there was a play bigger than any other play in the history of Knicks basketball,” Brown said afterward, calling the shot the most iconic in the club’s history. Anunoby finished with the winning basket and confirmed Brown’s pregame challenge: “He told me I need to get on the offensive glass and use my size and athleticism, and it happened at the end.”
Hart narrowly avoids blame
Moments earlier, Josh Hart missed a wide-open breakaway layup and committed a foul that allowed Stephon Castle to put San Antonio back in front. “I’ve got a special shout-out for OG, man, because he saved me, at least for this game, a lifetime of regret,” Hart said.
Alvarado ignites fourth-quarter surge
Reserve guard Jose Alvarado scored eight points in the final period to spark the rally. “That’s when things really started to shift,” Landry Shamet said. Karl-Anthony Towns called Alvarado “a big-time player” for his impact off the bench.
Towns contributes in closing minutes
Towns, who battled early foul trouble, posted 13 points and 10 rebounds. His deflection of Dylan Harper’s inbounds pass on the Spurs’ last possession helped prevent a clean look at a potential game-winner.
The Knicks can clinch the championship with a win in Game 5.
