The Sacramento Kings are leaving the door open for veteran guard Russell Westbrook to return in 2024-25, and the 37-year-old is said to be receptive to the idea.
“Russell’s always welcome with me,” general manager Scott Perry told NBC Bay Area. “I loved working with Russell Westbrook this year. He was phenomenal.”
Westbrook signed a one-year contract last summer and delivered steady production, averaging 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists across 64 games. Perry praised the former MVP’s competitiveness and said the sides will “keep the lines of communication open.”
Sacramento faces additional roster decisions. Forward DeMar DeRozan remains productive, yet only $10 million of his $25.7 million salary for next season is guaranteed, giving the club flexibility to pivot if it chooses. ESPN’s Bobby Marks has noted the Kings could prioritize getting younger while managing long-term payroll.
Westbrook’s performance aligns with the team’s current makeup, while DeRozan’s contract situation may shape its next steps. No timeline has been set for final decisions.
