The Sacramento Kings will keep Doug Christie on the sideline after a 22-win season that fell short in the standings but strengthened the organization’s confidence in its rebuilding plan.
General manager Scott Perry said player development was the primary motive for extending Christie’s tenure. He highlighted rookies Nique Clifford, Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell as evidence of internal growth.
“That was one of the main reasons in making sure Doug Christie came back as head coach,” Perry explained. “Doug’s relentless energy, his leadership with these young guys, his patience, never wavered throughout a challenging year.”
Sacramento shuffled through 34 different starting lineups as injuries disrupted any chance of continuity. Key contributors Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray and Zach LaVine all missed significant time.
“It would be nice to plug those guys in and have all that,” Christie said. “We didn’t have it, but I can see how all of that would fit. Come hell or high water.”
The roster could change again this summer. LaVine is considered a trade possibility, and veteran forward DeMar DeRozan may also become available. Regardless of who returns, the Kings expect Christie’s approach to unify the group and accelerate a turnaround.
