Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett said he hopes LeBron James returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers for what could be the superstar’s final NBA season.

Speaking on his “KG Certified” podcast, Garnett remarked that a farewell tour would feel right if it took place where James’ career started. “If you’re doing a farewell tour and this is his last hurrah, I would like to see him in Cleveland. Take a pay cut, go back somewhere,” he said.

The idea has long appealed to fans in Northeast Ohio, though league observers still view the Los Angeles Lakers as the most likely team to keep the four-time champion should he continue playing. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently noted that Cleveland lacks the salary-cap space to sign James at anything close to his market value.

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus nonetheless listed the Cavaliers as the “most logical landing spot” if the 39-year-old were to leave Los Angeles, writing that Cleveland is a franchise willing to commit to a three-year sign-and-trade arrangement to close out James’ career.

James’ history with Cleveland extends beyond his rookie years. After rejoining the Cavaliers in 2014, he delivered the organization’s first NBA title two seasons later, erasing a 3-1 deficit against the record-setting 73-win Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Finals.

Meanwhile, veteran NBA reporter Marc Spears recently floated a different scenario: the Lakers could attempt to reunite James with former Cavaliers teammate Kevin Love, who will be a free agent this summer.

With no decision imminent, speculation around James’ future—and a possible homecoming in Cleveland—continues.
