San Antonio, TX — The NBA Finals open Wednesday with the New York Knicks visiting the San Antonio Spurs, and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says he would be “thrilled” to see former assistant Mike Brown capture his first championship as a head coach.

Brown, now guiding the Knicks, owns four rings as an assistant—one with the Spurs in 2003 and three with Golden State in 2017, 2018 and 2022. “He’s a great friend,” Kerr told the New York Post. “I’d love to see him win one. The problem for me is I’d also love to see the Spurs win another one.”

Kerr called Brown “much more organized and detailed than I am,” crediting the veteran coach’s upbeat approach and extensive résumé for steering New York through a season that came with a Finals-or-bust mandate.

Court Design Returns to Tradition

The league confirmed Sunday that the Larry O’Brien trophy graphic and the traditional “The Finals” script logo will appear on both home courts throughout the series, restoring images many fans felt were missing in recent years.

Officiating Crew Announced

Twelve referees will work the series, led by Tony Brothers and Marc Davis, each making a 15th Finals appearance, and Scott Foster, who is assigned to his 19th. James Capers (14th Finals) and Zach Zarba (13th) also return, while Curtis Blair is set for his first Finals assignment.

Expanded Media Presence

Former Knicks guard Jeremy Lin joins ESPN’s coverage as an analyst, appearing on NBA Today, SportsCenter and additional programming. The league also named player correspondents for the first five games: top prospect Caleb Wilson (Game 1), rookie Derik Queen (Game 2), Jeremiah Fears (Game 3), AJ Dybantsa (Game 4) and Kon Knueppel (Game 5).

Preview stories from the Associated Press, ESPN and other outlets examine the paths, matchups and storylines that could decide the championship. Fans can cast their choice for the eventual winner in an online poll hosted by Hoops Rumors.
