Isaiah Thomas has moved into the Boston Celtics’ front office as a scout, a position he believes could pave the way for a future executive career. Speaking on his “Point Game” podcast, the two-time All-Star said conversations about the job had been ongoing for some time.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do—be part of an organization, be part of the front office and help make decisions,” Thomas explained. “Hopefully one day I’ll be a GM or head of basketball operations, or wherever the game takes me.”
Based in his hometown of Seattle, the 35-year-old has already begun his new duties. His first assignment was representing Boston at last week’s draft combine in Chicago, where he sat in on prospect interviews. Thomas noted that players seemed at ease with him because they recognize his playing career. “I can relate to them,” he said. “They don’t always know everybody in the front office, but they know me.”
In other Celtics news, guard Derrick White was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team for the 2025-26 season—the first such honor of his career after landing on the Second Team in 2023 and 2024. White was the lone guard selected for this year’s First Team.
Boston now faces a surplus on the wing with Jayson Tatum back to full health. League observers expect president Brad Stevens to weigh offseason deals involving Sam Hauser, Baylor Scheierman, Hugo Gonzalez or Jordan Walsh to balance the roster.
Columnist Chad Finn of The Boston Globe has also floated a more dramatic scenario: trading Jaylen Brown to Milwaukee for two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Finn contends that such a blockbuster could elevate the Celtics’ championship prospects and provide an upgrade over Brown.
The Celtics enter the summer with multiple paths to reshape the roster while integrating Thomas into their talent-evaluation process.
