SAN ANTONIO — Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell will not play in Sunday’s Game 4 of the Western Conference finals after being diagnosed with a right calf strain, the team announced Friday.

The second-year guard has started seven of Oklahoma City’s 11 postseason contests, stepping in whenever forward Jalen Williams has been unavailable. Williams is listed as questionable for Game 4 because of soreness in his left hamstring, which forced him to sit out the Thunder’s Game 3 road victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Williams appeared in only 33 regular-season games while recovering from offseason surgery on his right wrist and a right hamstring strain. He then missed six straight playoff games after sustaining a Grade 1 strain of his left hamstring in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Phoenix Suns.

During the six contests Williams missed earlier in the postseason, Mitchell averaged 21.2 points and 5.3 assists, numbers that helped him finish fifth in Sixth Man of the Year balloting. In Game 3 against San Antonio, however, he was limited to two points and one assist in 17 minutes, both personal lows this postseason.

Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday at Frost Bank Center, with the Thunder holding a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
