Heat Seen as Leading Contender for Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade

The Miami Heat remain the team most frequently linked to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo as the Bucks explore trade possibilities, league sources told The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm.

According to the report, numerous agents and team executives believe Antetokounmpo is likely to land in Miami after the Heat came closer than any other bidder to acquiring him at February’s trade deadline. Discussions were reportedly so advanced that Miami officials expected a deal before Milwaukee decided not to move the two-time MVP.

Bleacher Report insider Jake Fischer echoed that sentiment in his latest rumor roundup, labeling Miami the primary team to monitor in the ongoing sweepstakes.

Proposed package from Miami

The Athletic outlined a framework that would send 2025 All-Star Tyler Herro, rookie center Kelel Ware, Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Jaime Jaquez Jr., the No. 13 pick in this year’s draft, and two future first-round selections to Milwaukee.

Milwaukee is said to be seeking either a blue-chip young star or a substantial haul of first-round picks. While other clubs could top Miami’s offer, some appear reluctant to part with key players or to surrender a major package for a player entering the final guaranteed year of his contract.

Other interested teams

The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly will not include Evan Mobley in any proposal, and the Portland Trail Blazers face uncertainty about Antetokounmpo’s willingness to extend in the Western Conference. Fischer also expressed doubt that the Thunder, Timberwolves, Warriors, or Rockets are serious threats at this stage.

The Athletic added Boston and Orlando to the list of possible destinations. Any Celtics bid would likely feature Jaylen Brown, potentially rerouted to a third team. An Orlando offer would have to be built around Paolo Banchero; new Magic coach Sean Sweeney previously spent four seasons on Milwaukee’s staff and is familiar with Antetokounmpo.

Fit concerns in Miami

If the Heat succeed, questions remain about roster depth and the front-court pairing of Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Both excel defensively but provide limited floor spacing. League sources told The Athletic that Miami is not overly worried about those concerns as it pursues its first marquee acquisition since adding Jimmy Butler in 2019.
