Frank Vogel to Become Warriors Associate Head Coach

Veteran NBA coach Frank Vogel has reached an agreement to join the Golden State Warriors as associate head coach, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Marc Stein had earlier indicated Vogel was expected to take a spot on Steve Kerr’s bench.
Long Coaching Resume
Vogel’s NBA coaching career began in 2001 as an assistant with the Boston Celtics, followed by assistant roles in Philadelphia and Indiana. He earned his first head-coaching opportunity with the Indiana Pacers in 2011, leading the team until 2016.
He later guided the Orlando Magic from 2016 to 2018, then moved to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he captured the 2020 NBA championship during the league’s COVID-shortened season. Vogel served as the Phoenix Suns’ head coach for the 2023-24 campaign.
After his stint in Phoenix, Vogel joined Jason Kidd’s Dallas Mavericks staff, first as a coaching consultant and then as an assistant. He was not retained when Kidd was replaced this offseason by former Michigan head coach Dusty May.
Why Golden State Needed Help
Golden State had openings on the front bench after assistants Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse departed following last season. Vogel will fill one of those vacancies and bring more than two decades of NBA coaching experience to Steve Kerr’s staff.
