FBI Seizes Lakers Majority Owner Mark Walter’s Phone and Laptop During Federal Probe

Federal agents confiscated Los Angeles Lakers majority owner Mark Walter’s mobile phone and laptop while executing a court-authorized search aboard his private plane at Chicago Midway International Airport on Sept. 18, 2025, Bloomberg reported.
The search warrant is part of a broader investigation into Walter’s business interests, including Guggenheim Partners and two insurance firms he controls through TWG Global, according to the report.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed agents carried out the warrant but declined to discuss what information they sought or whether the devices remain in government custody.
No criminal charges have been filed against Walter, and investigations of this type can conclude without charges being brought.
In a statement to Bloomberg, TWG Global said Walter and the company “have always acted in good faith,” are cooperating with authorities, and are confident the matter will be resolved favorably.
Bloomberg previously noted that prosecutors have been reviewing whether private credit investments tied to Walter’s insurance companies and Guggenheim Partners were properly disclosed. Investigators have also looked at a 2025 investment agreement between TWG Global and Mubadala Capital, though it is unclear if that part of the inquiry is still active.
Walter became the Lakers’ majority owner last year; Jeanie Buss remains the franchise’s governor and continues to oversee daily basketball operations. Walter also owns the Los Angeles Dodgers and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, and holds stakes in Chelsea FC and other sports entities.
