The New York Knicks, fresh off their first NBA championship in 53 years, landed at No. 3 in ESPN’s initial offseason power rankings, released this week.

Oklahoma City claimed the top position after posting 64 regular-season wins despite significant injuries. San Antonio followed at No. 2, with ESPN citing the Spurs’ emerging trio of Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper as evidence the franchise could contend again next year.

ESPN’s panel of NBA reporters placed the defending champion Knicks third, noting several key offseason decisions for New York involving Mitchell Robinson, Miles McBride, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Top 10 heading into the offseason

1. Thunder
2. Spurs
3. Knicks
4. Celtics
5. Pistons
6. Nuggets
7. Cavaliers
8. Timberwolves

The rankings factored in each club’s 2025-26 outlook as well as its 2024-25 finish. Whether Knicks fans agree with a bronze position remains to be seen—New York still holds the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
