CHICAGO — Forward AJ Dybantsa said during this week’s NBA Draft Combine that being selected No. 1 overall remains his clear objective. “I’ve been number one in the ranking since ninth grade, and I ain’t dropped,” the projected top pick told reporters. “I’m not planning on dropping in the draft.”
Dybantsa met with the Wizards, who hold the first selection, along with the Jazz, Bulls, Kings, Nets, Hawks, Mavericks, Grizzlies and Clippers while in Chicago.
Ejiofor boosts stock with long-range display
Zuby Ejiofor, a forward from St. John’s, impressed scouts in the combine’s shooting drills. He hit 17-of-30 shots off the dribble, 12-of-25 in the three-point star drill, 16-of-28 in the side-middle-side exercise and 13-of-25 on spot-ups. Ejiofor said he merely showcased a skill he “could’ve shown a little bit more in college.” His agent expects him to be chosen between picks 25 and 35.
Momcilovic mulls draft or lucrative return to college
Milan Momcilovic of Iowa State remains in the draft process but would become the most coveted player in the transfer portal if he withdraws. An NBA source projects the forward could earn more than $5 million in NIL deals by staying in school. Momcilovic recently identified Kentucky as a strong collegiate fit.
Updated mock draft
Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman released a post-combine mock draft featuring Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson as the first four picks. Wasserman noted the combine left Peterson’s status unchanged and revealed no new concerns about Boozer’s size or athleticism.
