Sam Merrill listed as questionable for Game 2 with left hamstring strain

The Cleveland Cavaliers may have to proceed without one of their top perimeter threats in Game 2 against the Detroit Pistons. Guard Sam Merrill is officially questionable after being diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, the team confirmed Wednesday.
Merrill left Tuesday’s Game 1 after just seven minutes of action and did not take part in Wednesday’s practice. With the teams set to meet again Thursday, the quick turnaround leaves his availability in doubt.
“We’ll probably have to lean on those guys if Sam isn’t back right away,” head coach Kenny Atkinson said, referring to Max Strus, Jaylon Tyson and reserve guard Keon Ellis, all of whom saw increased minutes following Merrill’s exit.
The 27-year-old sharpshooter played a key role in Cleveland’s first-round series against Toronto, hitting 11 of 29 attempts from beyond the arc (37.9 percent) after shooting 42.1 percent from three during the regular season.
